GLOBAL SEARCH 2.0

Not a newsreader at all, strictly speaking: UsenetServer’s Global Search 2.0 is a web-based search engine that turns queries into NZB files for whatever client you actually run. Deep index, zero installation, and entirely dependent on a UsenetServer subscription to use.

Global Search produces NZBs rather than consuming them: every result exports a clean, standard NZB file that any client accepted without complaint in our use. That is the entire handling story, and for a search tool it is the correct one. What it cannot do is queue, download or manage anything itself. It is the front half of a pipeline that assumes you own the back half.

None, by design. Repair happens in the download client you pair with it, and the NZBs it generates carried the PAR2 sets correctly in our checks, which is all a search layer can contribute to repair: not losing the recovery files. The low score here is a category fact, not a criticism.

Searches return quickly and the site stayed responsive in use. Download speed is not its department: that belongs to your client and your UsenetServer account, which allows 20 connections on standard monthly plans, one of the lower ceilings around. The search layer itself adds no delay worth mentioning to the pipeline.

Everything with a browser, which beats every installable client in this table on paper: desktop, laptop, phone, tablet, the lot. There is nothing to install and therefore nothing to be incompatible with. The flip side: it is useless standalone, so the real platform requirement is wherever your download client lives.

Manual by nature: you search, you click, you feed the NZB to your client. There is no API for the automation stack, so Sonarr-style unattended setups will use a proper indexer instead. As a hands-on discovery tool it is quick; as an automation component it does not exist.

A browser tab. Nothing installs, nothing runs resident, nothing updates. By the standards of this axis it is the lightest entry in the table by an absurd margin, which is one of the perks of not being software.

The entire product, and the strongest single axis any entry in this table posts. The index reaches across UsenetServer’s full advertised retention, which is measured in thousands of days, with filtering that is functional rather than fancy. Depth at the obscure end beat the bundled clients’ integrated searches in our use, and a paid dedicated indexer remains the ceiling above it.

A search page: query box, filters, results, download buttons. Fast, legible, done. There is nothing to learn, which for a discovery tool is a feature. Nobody will call it beautiful and nobody needs to.

▸Deep search across the network’s full advertised retention, stronger at the obscure end than any bundled client’s built-in search.
▸Nothing to install, update or maintain. Works from any browser, including a phone.
▸Exports clean, standard NZBs that any download client accepts.
▸Included with the UsenetServer account at no extra cost.
− LOSSES
▸Not a newsreader: it cannot download, queue, repair or unpack anything itself.
▸No API, so it is invisible to the automation stack.
▸Requires a UsenetServer subscription, and the standard plan’s 20 connections is a low ceiling for the paired client.
▸Filtering is functional but basic next to a dedicated indexer.
FINAL VERDICT_

Global Search 2.0 is the best search tool in this table and not a newsreader at all, which is the whole review in one sentence. Choose it if you are a UsenetServer subscriber pairing it with a real download client: the combination of its deep index and SABnzbd or NZBGet is a genuinely strong, zero-cost setup. Skip it if you want one thing that does everything, because this is deliberately half of a pipeline, or if your downloads run unattended, because automation cannot see it. The decisive point: it does one job, the job is search, and it does that job better than anything else on this board. Evaluated August 2026.

The efficiency king: an open-source NZB downloader written in C++ that does what SABnzbd does in a fraction of the memory, which is why it lives on routers, ancient NAS boxes and single-board computers. Abandoned by its original author in 2022, revived by a maintained community fork, and still free.
