PRIVACY POLICY
LAST UPDATED 27 AUG 2026
NewsgroupServers.info reviews Usenet providers and newsreaders. Reading reviews should not cost you a data trail, so the site is built to collect close to nothing: there are no accounts, no forms, no comment boxes, no newsletters and no search box. You cannot type personal information into this site because there is nowhere to type it. Since 18 August 2026 the site also uses Google Analytics, and since 27 August 2026 a Google Ads conversion tag, each only for visitors who switch the matching category on. What processing there is is listed below, completely. Verified August 2026.
WHO RUNS THIS SITE
The site operator is NewsgroupServers.info. For privacy questions or requests, write to privacy@newsgroupservers.info.
WHAT IS PROCESSED
| DATA | WHO HANDLES IT | WHY | HOW LONG |
|---|---|---|---|
| Server logs: IP address, requested page, timestamp, user agent | Cloudflare, which hosts and serves the site | Delivering pages, load balancing, blocking abusive traffic. This is the unavoidable minimum of serving a website. | Per Cloudflare's standard log retention |
| Your privacy choice (ngs-consent cookie) | Your browser; we never see it server side | Remembering what you allowed or refused | 6 months |
| Your theme preference (ngs-theme) | Your browser only | Light or dark mode | Until you clear it |
| Usage measurement: pages read, approximate location from IP, device and browser, referring site, and which parts of a review you opened | Google Analytics 4, and only if you switch ANALYTICS on in the privacy panel | Telling which reviews and comparisons are actually used, so the useful ones get extended and the ignored ones get rewritten. Consent is the legal basis; there is no legitimate interest claim here. | 14 months, then deleted by Google |
| Ad conversion measurement: that a click on one of our own Google ads led to this visit, plus which page you landed on | Google Ads, and only if you switch MARKETING on in the privacy panel | Telling which of our own ads bring people who read a review, so the campaigns that waste money can be stopped. Consent is the legal basis. Ad personalisation stays off, so this measures our campaigns and does not build an audience to follow you with. | Per Google Ads conversion window settings, up to 90 days in your browser |
That is the whole list. Fonts are served from this domain, so no font network sees your visit. There is no affiliate or referral tracking and no data broker anywhere in the chain. The only advertising technology is the conversion tag in the last row, which measures our own ads and nothing else. If you refuse both categories, or simply never answer the banner, the first three rows above are the entire record and no request ever reaches Google. The cookie policy holds the item by item inventory.
WHAT WE DO NOT DO
- We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined in the California, Colorado, Texas and similar US state privacy laws, and we run no targeted or personalised advertising. We do buy ads on Google, and with your permission we measure whether they worked; that is the whole of it. True as of the last updated date above; if it ever changes, this policy and the consent panel change first, and nothing new runs without your permission.
- We do not track you across other sites, and nothing on this site lets anyone else do so. Google Analytics here is first party only, with Google signals and cross device reporting switched off.
- We do not build profiles, remarketing audiences or advertising identifiers. Consent Mode's ad_personalization signal is denied on this site whatever you choose, which is what stops the conversion tag from feeding one.
OUTBOUND LINKS
Reviews link to the providers and newsreaders they review. Clicking through takes you to that operator's own site, under that operator's own privacy policy, which will be longer than this one. We attach no tracking to those links; your browser sends its normal referrer information and nothing else from us.
HOW THE MEASUREMENT IS CONFIGURED
The consent panel (PRIVACY CHOICES, in the footer of every page) holds the analytics and marketing switches. Both start OFF for every visitor, the site honours the Global Privacy Control signal, and Google Consent Mode v2 defaults to denied before any tag code can run. Nothing is loaded from Google until you grant a category, and the two are independent: analytics loads the measurement tag, marketing loads the ad conversion tag, and allowing one does not load the other. Withdrawing a grant deletes that category's cookies and reloads the page so nothing already running survives.
The Google Analytics property itself is configured deliberately narrowly: no personal information is sent, data redaction is on, event data is retained for 14 months rather than indefinitely, Google signals and ad personalisation are off, and the property is not linked to any advertising product, so nothing you read here is fed to the ad account. The Google Ads tag under the MARKETING switch is a separate, conversion only installation: it records that an ad brought you here, with ad personalisation denied, and it is not permitted to build a remarketing audience. Turning that on would need its own switch and a change to this page first.
YOUR RIGHTS
Depending on where you live (the EEA, UK, Switzerland, California, Colorado, Texas and a growing list of other jurisdictions), you may have rights of access, correction, deletion, portability, and objection or opt out. The personal data in our orbit sits in Cloudflare's short lived server logs, in your own browser, and, if you allowed analytics, in a Google Analytics property keyed to a random identifier we cannot connect to a person. Most requests therefore resolve to: withdraw consent in the privacy panel, clear your cookies, and we could not identify you in the first place. We will still answer every request at privacy@newsgroupservers.info, and EEA and UK readers can complain to their local supervisory authority if we get it wrong.
CHANGES
When this policy changes materially, the last updated date changes, and if the change involves any new optional technology the consent panel re-asks everyone rather than assuming the old answer still stands.
